What is LASIK?

LASIK is a laser eye procedure that reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, reducing or eliminating dependence on glasses or contact lenses.

Pros:

  • Fast procedure and quick visual recovery

  • Long-lasting results for many patients

  • High satisfaction rates when properly screened

Cons:

  • Involves surgery with potential risks (e.g., dry eye, glare, halos)

  • Not reversible

  • Requires a healthy cornea and stable prescription

What is ICL?

ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) involves placing a thin, biocompatible lens inside the eye, between the iris and the natural lens, to correct moderate to very high refractive errors.

Pros:

  • Suitable for high myopia or thin corneas, not ideal for LASIK

  • Can provide high-quality, sharp vision

  • The lens can be removed or replaced if needed

Cons:

  • Intraocular surgery with associated risks (infection, cataract, pressure changes)

  • Typically higher cost compared to other options

  • Requires long-term follow-up and monitoring

What is Ortho-K?

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) uses specially designed contact lenses worn overnight to gently reshape the cornea. The goal is to provide clear vision during the day without glasses or contact lenses.

Pros:

  • Non-surgical and reversible

  • Ideal for active individuals and athletes

  • Great for people too young for LASIK/ICL, or those with unstable vision.

  • Can help slow myopia progression in children

Cons:

  • The effect is temporary; lenses must be worn regularly at night

  • Requires strict hygiene and follow-up

  • Not all prescriptions and corneas are suitable
