Who is a good candidate for Orthokeratology?

Children with Nearsightedness, as well as adults of all ages, are good candidates of Orthokeratology

Children with Nearsightedness, as well as adults of all ages, are good candidates of Orthokeratology

Orthokeratology, or Ortho-K, is a non-surgical way of being free from eyeglasses and day time contact lenses.

Many factors can make a person a good candidate for Orthokeratology. However, the best way to know if you, or a loved one, is a good candidate is to schedule a free orthokeratology screening.

During the free Orthokeratology screening, our eyecare practitioners will evaluate your eyes, your eyeglass prescription and will discuss how Orthokeratology works. An eyecare practitioner will address all goals, expectations, and other Orthokeratology-related questions during the free orthokeratology screening.

You can schedule a free Orthokeratology screening by contacting info@solimanparolioptical.com or +639175141386.

  1. Nearsighted and people with Astigmatism. Orthokeratology can correct Nearsightedness as high as -9.00. It can also correct Astigmatism as high as -2.00. Orthokeratology is perfect for people who do not want to wear any correction the whole day or those who needs to be free from eyeglasses or contact lenses during certain activities (e.g. Outdoor enthusiasts and Athletes).

  2. Children with Nearsightedness.

Children who are nearsighted from 8 to 18 years old are good candidates for Orthokeratology because:

A.   The lenses never leave the house. They are only worn at night and removed after waking up. In other words, the wearing habit of a child can easily be supervised by parents or guardians. In most of our young patients, the parents also participate in putting and removing the lenses themselves.

B.   Changes in prescription are not a problem with Orthokeratology as they need to be changed after a certain period. During those changes, their eyecare practitioner may opt to update their prescription if there are any changes.

C. It can help with controlling the progression of their Nearsightedness, which will be discussed below.

3.    Children with a sharp increase in Nearsightedness

Unfortunately, with children who inherited or have Nearsightedness, it may progress as the years pass. Children who have experienced a sharp increase in Nearsightedness may benefit from the clinically proven myopia prevention effect of Orthokeratology.

4.    Patients who are not yet ready for any elective refractive surgery for their eyes.

Although refractive surgeries have advanced all over the years, some people may still find it scary to do so. Orthokeratology allows any future surgical options open. An Orthokeratology user may easily stop wearing Ortho-K lenses just in case they are ready to undergo refractive surgeries such as LASIK in the future.

5.    Athletes

Athletes who cannot wear glasses or contact lenses during their athletic activities may find it beneficial to wear Ortho-K lenses—particularly, those aged 18 and below who are too young for refractive surgery. Ortho-K is a good way for them to be free from eyeglasses and play their sports without hindering their vision.
